The cake stand is from the Japanese brand Bunaco and is made in Aomori, Japan in the area with Japan's largest beech forest. The platter is made from beech wood, cut into paper thin layers and shaped by hand using a special spiral technique. Instead of hollowing out solid wood, the shape is built up layer by layer a process that requires time and precision and results in a light but strong construction.
